General:
The project (TurvaLan 2009) is aimed to highlight the threats of internet to the young people, to class-, IT- and other teachers, etc. During the project there has been done one bigger event to the 4-8th grade pupils and the seminar to teachers among the different schools of the capital- Tallinn. The event consists of different parts - the seminar, different social games, watching the videos and solving the problems arising from the videos, the quiz, the competition of cleverness in computer games, etc. All of the events and seminars have been focused to the internet safety and threats subject and all of the different parts of the project have taken into account the inclusion of the youngsters, to hear there opinions, experiences and to start with the youth to youth work in this field.
2010-2015 we have developed the project further, so this web has changed to be our official E-safety portal.
Objectives:
- To increase the knowledge of the pupils and teachers of Tallinn City about the internet security and threats;
- To involve youngsters to the communications and discussions about the safer internet (what they see as a problem and what they think should be changed regards more secure internet usage);
- To increase the knowledge of the youngsters about the computer games and the linkages with internet safety;
- To prevent the victimization of youngster of the potential abuse of the pedophiles using internet forums, etc;
-To prevent cyber bullying;
-To help youngsters to protect their personal data loaded to internet (to the forums, networks - for example to orkut.com, Facebook, etc. ) through gathering the youngster for following the message about safety in internet in youngsters use of internet language;
-The persons involved to the project will forward their experiences and knowledge got from the project to the friends, to younger children and to other teens (youth to youth).
Results:
The project achieved most of its objectives:
- There have been done study videos about the internet threats by the youngster themselves, the videos have been presented on the wider Internet safety day conference organized for the specialists by Microsoft AS, etc.
- There have been prepared the web game about the internet safety;
-The website http://fame.pelgulinna.tln.edu.ee/turva/ was constructed;
- The lectures-seminars, 6x45 min were organized to teachers (40 persons) from different schools of Tallinn City (25 schools);
- The event for youngsters was done (6x45 min)(141 youngsters, 109 pupils and other organizers 32 from 14 different Tallinn Schools);
- The research was carried out and evaluated, the questionnaires were answered by 89 youngsters and 34 teachers).
-The project was implemented by the 55 youngsters/pupils from Pelgulinna Gymnasium, so they are the ones who will lead the line youth to youth about internet safety and possible threats.
